Dentures are a really great option if unfortunately you are missing all of your teeth, or partial dentures if you have some of your teeth but not all of your teeth. It’s an affordable way to give you back that ability to smile and an ability to function better than you could without them. Although dentures are a good option to replace missing teeth along with partial dentures, they’re generally not our first go-to.
I would rather have you keep your teeth for as long as possible on the top and the bottom just so we have some strength, some anchorage to those dentures or partial dentures, because all that anchorage and strength allows us to chew our food better. It allows us more strength and not have to worry about things like dentures coming out or getting loose over time.
The other thing that I hear all the time from almost every person that wears dentures is I wish I would have kept my teeth longer. So I’ve heard it enough times that I try to really give that to patients, that information to patients so they have a really well-informed decision if they choose to go down the route and not keep many or all of their teeth.
